Hello Everyone!
Welcome to The Pandemic Vindicator.
The purpose of this blog is to call attention to fraudulent, unethical, negligent, and illegal operational practices of government-recognized, legal business entities during the COVID19 pandemic. If you are reading this blog, I will assume that you are aware that there is a global pandemic affecting more than 200 countries worldwide. Nearly 2 million cases around the globe have been confirmed. Many countries are under strict quarantine measures to minimize the spread of the virus. As a result, extreme social distancing measures are in place. In March of 2020, the NBA, MLB, and NHL cancelled sporting events; public and private schools closed for the year, graduations and commencement ceremonies were cancelled, weddings and funeral ceremonies have also been cancelled. The airline industry is down billions of dollars in sales because people are no longer flying. Millions have lost jobs and are facing uncertain financial nightmares at this time. The United States Government recently negotiated a stimulus package to help the economy, but even that might not be enough to help individuals maintain their bills.
To help the community, many Christian churches have answered the call to serve by providing FREE resources, to include, but not limited to: food pantries, toiletries, shelter, alternative job opportunities, and professional development resources to position members for success post quarantine. In this difficult, unprecedented time, the Church has—in SO many ways—gone above and beyond to demonstrate the love of GOD, and these selfless acts are so appreciated. During this time when many are financially crippled, it is refreshing to see the Church demonstrate the grace and love of GOD to help others overcome, recognizing that we are all one in the body of Christ.
Unfortunately, there are many businesses that are focused on capitalizing off of the current crisis by taking advantage of vulnerable populations to promote their personal agendas and business ventures, and the purpose of this blog is to provide a space for corrupt business practices to be called out by consumers without retaliation.
This first post is about the Pinky Promise Organization and the Pinky Promise Conference of 2020.
As a disclaimer, please note that many have asked questions about the conference and expressed concerns to the conference organizers via social media, but their comments were deleted and their profiles were blocked. Many have also written emails that have gone unanswered. So, this blog entry is written to provide those with genuine concerns an opportunity to express themselves without backlash and retaliation.
Followers of the Pinky Promise Movement, a Christian-based, purity culture organization, recently noted that refunds will not be provided for those who purchased tickets, regardless of possible extenuating circumstances which might cause the event to be cancelled. This year’s Pinky Promise Conference is scheduled to take place from July 30-August 2nd at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis. Many prospective attendees have contacted Marriott International’s Corporate Office to inquire about the refund policy for COVID19. Marriott has indicated that all guests and event organizers will be refunded WITHOUT financial penalties for cancelling lodging or venue rentals, if COVID19 prevents the event from occurring. Given this, many Pinky Promise followers wonder why they are being denied refunds if there will be no penalty to the event organizers?
Many are extremely concerned about the updated refund policy for the Pinky Promise Conference. The event organizers stated that, if COVID19 becomes an issue, the conference will be rescheduled or the tickets will be good for 2 years if an attendee is unavailable for the new date. Many Pinky Promise followers have further questions...what if someone decides that they just don’t want to attend the Pinky Promise Conference anymore because of life-changing events caused by COVID19? Would this person, or people in similar situations, simply lose their money???
Many believe that the non-refundable policy is just unacceptable, especially because the pandemic is an extenuating circumstance, but there seems to be no mercy from the Pinky Promise event organizers. The Pinky Promise Conference organizers also assert that the event is 4-5 months away so there’s plenty of time to plan, despite the pandemic. Well today is April 14th....the Conference begins on July 30th. That’s exactly 3 months and 2 weeks away....four months from today is actually August 14th.
Pinky Promise Movement is a nonprofit, 501(c)3 Organization, so people wonder, what is the issue with providing refunds? Especially because the event organizers will apparently accrue no cost for cancelling due to extenuating circumstances, according to Marriott. Is this how a Christian-based non profit should conduct business? Is this ethical? Check out what this law firm recommended for event organizers during this time: https://www.taftlaw.com/news-events/law-bulletins/to-cancel-or-not-a-checklist-for-event-and-conference-organizers
Additionally, many medical experts suggest that even when the pandemic passes, people should still refrain from gathering in excessively large groups to avoid preventable illnesses. Our Nation has not seen a pandemic of this grandeur in nearly a century, so these recommendations are highlighted as precautionary measures to save lives. Medical experts are uncertain if regathering post-COVID19 could cause a second wave. Many Pinky Promise followers wonder, why would a Christian Organization even jeopardize the health of others by continuing with this conference...for the safety of possible attendees, the speakers, and conference organizers, it seems that it would be ideal to cancel the in-person conference. Why not adjust prices and turn the conference into a virtual conference? At least for safety, right? Is this really how nonprofits operate....not providing refunds in light of a GLOBAL pandemic? What organization would want the reputation of negligence in handling customer concerns during the COVID19 pandemic? Many organizations/companies are MAKING EXCEPTIONS for refunds right now simply out of compassion because of the global pandemic which has caused unemployment claims in the US to jump to more than 6 million claims within 2 weeks of the COVID19 quarantine. Because Pinky Promise Movement is a 501(c)3 non-profit, many also wonder if the organization has done any outreach or community service to assist individuals in need at this time? Non-profit organizations typically do lots of outreach, so wondering about outreach is a valid concern, especially in light of the pandemic.
Either way, people have questions. And because there seems to be a breakdown in communication between the Pinky Promise leaders, event organizers, and Pinky Promise consumers, this platform is provided as a space for people to make comments and share thoughts WITHOUT being deleted and blocked. This is not about jealousy. This is about safety and protection.
Please comment below if you know of any other organizations or businesses who are attempting to capitalize off of this vulnerable moment in history. Let’s protect ourselves and others by speaking out. Please also check out the links below for further information on the Pinky Promise Conference.
